EUA-CDE Annual Meeting
It is our pleasure to invite you to this year’s edition of the EUA Council for Doctoral Education’s flagship event, the 2025 EUA-CDE Annual Meeting. Entitled ‘20 years of progress - Celebrating the achievements and shaping the future of doctoral education in Europe’, the conference will take place from 4-6 June, hosted by the University of Lausanne, Switzerlan
This year’s EUA-CDE Annual Meeting celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Salzburg Principles, a milestone document that has shaped doctoral education across Europe since its adoption in 2005 as part of the Bologna Process. Over the past two decades, these principles have guided European universities in their mission to further elevate and strengthen doctoral education while ensuring a fair and empowering environment for doctoral candidates.
Over three days, academic leaders, doctoral school managers, professionals and other stakeholders will come together to examine the lasting influence of the Salzburg Principles on doctoral education, featuring perspectives on what has been achieved as well as discussions on emerging priorities and pressing challenges in the field.
The conference will also reflect on the current landscape, assessing progress against the original ten Salzburg Principles and exploring new opportunities to fully unlock their potential. A dedicated session will present outcomes of a new study, showcasing how doctoral education in Europe has evolved since the creation of the Salzburg Principles.
Through keynote speeches, dedicated panel discussions and interactive formats, this conference will address a broad array of topics such as the impact of current geopolitical shifts on doctoral education, with a particular focus on research security and academic freedom as well as the impact of policy changes that will shape the future landscape for doctoral candidates, like the reform of the research assessment.
The 2025 EUA-CDE Annual Meeting offers an opportunity to connect with peers, kick-start collaborations and immerse yourself in European doctoral education. In addition, EUA-CDE members are invited to propose contributions for the parallel sessions or apply for the ‘My university’s achievements in doctoral education since Salzburg in 3 minutes’ format. The deadline to submit proposals is 7 April.
Register now to take advantage of early-bird pricing until 23 April 2025. After this date, standard registration fees will apply.
