A PhD Candidate at Warsaw University of Technology Combines a Career as an Oncological Surgeon and a Mechatronics Engineer
MSc Eng. Dr. Krzysztof Winiarz graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics at Rzeszów University of Technology, specializing in Mechatronics and Robotics. He completed his master's thesis entitled: “Development of a Vision-Based Measurement System for Determining Angular Rotation and Displacement Using the MATLAB Environment”. Immediately after earning his master's degree, he began medical studies at the Medical University of Lublin. He is currently a practicing oncological surgeon and a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering. In his professional work, Krzysztof combines mechatronics and medicine. His research interests include reducing the invasiveness of oncological surgery and advancing medical innovation.
A PhD Student from WUT on Archaeological Missions
MSc Eng. Paweł Czernic is a PhD student at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography.
He took part in his first archaeological mission while still pursuing his engineering studies, in Berenike - an ancient port city on the coast of the Red Sea in southern Egypt.
He also participated twice in the Omani-Polish Archaeological Mission in the Qumayrah Valley, located in the breathtaking mountains of Oman.
Three times, he was a member of the Kuwaiti-Polish Archaeological Mission at the desert sites of Bahra-1 and Kharaib el-Desht on an island in the Persian Gulf.
Among his most recent expeditions, Paweł can proudly mention his two participations in the Polish Archaeological Mission in Ptolemais, situated on the coast of Libya.
Exploring the World with Space Rovers
MSc Eng. Marcel Szubartowski began his PhD studies this year at the Warsaw University of Technology, focusing on biomimetic robotics for space exploration. However, he has been developing his passion for science for many years. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Students’ Space Association, where in the Robotics Section he worked as a mechanical engineer on the Sirius 2 rover. His team participated in numerous competitions, including the European Rover Challenge, Anatolian Rover Challenge, and University Rover Challenge. More about the competitions can be found on the WUT website: https://www.pw.edu.pl/.../dwa-zespoly-kol-naukowych-w...
An Analyst with Creativity in Environmental Protection
MSc Światosław Gorodecki is a PhD candidate at the Doctoral School of the Warsaw University of Technology. He conducts research at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering. He completed his Master’s degree in Environmental Protection at the University of Łódź, and his Bachelor’s degree in geomonitoring.
PhD Student’s Work at the Museum of Modern Art
MSc Eng. Maciej Jurzyk is a PhD student at the Warsaw University of Technology who uses satellite data to develop modern urban planning solutions and combat climate change in cities. He has successfully translated his scientific passions into art by co-creating an exhibit titled “Urban Heat Island” during the 14th edition of the festival (under the theme “Fight for the Streets”) at the Museum of Modern Art, as part of the exhibition “Warsaw Under Construction 14.” Maciej was responsible for developing a map based on data from NASA Landsat and Copernicus Sentinel systems.
Microscopy Expert Among Warsaw Tech PhD Students
MSc Eng. Piotr Arcab is a member of the QCI Lab research group (https://qcilab.mchtr.pw.edu.pl/) and became interested in microscopy already during his university studies. Since 2022, while still pursuing his Master’s degree, he was involved in the implementation of the now-completed NCN SONATA 16 project called GaboScope. Since 2024, he has been working on the prestigious European ERC Starting Grant project titled NaNoLens. Both projects were led by Dr. Hab. Eng. Maciej Trusiak, Associate Professor at the university. Each initiative develops the same lensless imaging technique, but in different research directions. Participation in the first project allowed Piotr to gain expertise in LDHM techniques. Meanwhile, the NaNoLens project is implementing a completely new method of tomographic lensless imaging, while building on the experience gained through GaboScope.
WUT PhD Students Reach for the Stars!
MSc Eng. Damian Grabowski – an industrial PhD student at Warsaw University of Technology, in cooperation with Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation – travelled to the California Institute of Technology in March this year to participate in the seventh edition of the Caltech Space Challenge. Out of 500 applicants, only 32 participants were selected, and Damian was the only Pole on the team.
Laureaci konkursu Three Minute Thesis®
Three Minute Thesis® (3MT) to międzynarodowy konkurs, w którym doktoranci prezentują sedno swoich badań w krótkiej, trzyminutowej formie.
Nauki prof. Mariusz Malinowski, Dyrektor Szkoły Doktorskiej prof. Aneta Pobudkowska-Mirecka, prof. Wojciech Wróbel oraz dziennikarz naukowy Radosław Brzózka.
